1. Introduction

Welcome to MPPT Solar (the “Application,” “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). The MPPT Solar application is designed to monitor and manage Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar charge controllers built on ESP32 devices. The App communicates with these devices through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and the MQTT messaging protocol, enabling you to view real-time telemetry, battery statistics, energy production data, system alerts, and to configure and update your devices.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling any data we process responsibly and transparently. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information the Application accesses or collects, how that information is used and shared, the choices available to you, and the measures we take to keep your information secure. By downloading, installing, or using the Application, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please discontinue use of the Application.

2. Information We Collect

MPPT Solar is built to function primarily as a local monitoring and management tool for your own solar hardware. The information processed by the Application falls into the following general categories:

  • Device and telemetry data generated by your MPPT solar charge controllers, such as battery voltage, charging current, and solar power output.
  • Configuration data that you enter or adjust when setting up and managing your devices.
  • Account information (where you choose to create an account for cloud synchronization), which may include an email address and authentication credentials.
  • Technical and diagnostic information necessary to maintain connectivity, deliver firmware updates, and troubleshoot issues.

The Application does not collect sensitive personal information such as government-issued identification numbers, financial or payment information, health data, precise location history, or biometric data.

3. Device Information

To establish and maintain a reliable connection with your MPPT solar charge controllers, the Application may access technical information about both your mobile device and your solar hardware. This includes device identifiers used to recognize and reconnect to your MPPT controllers, BLE device names and signal characteristics, firmware versions, hardware model identifiers, and connection status.

Information about your mobile device may include the operating system version and application version, which is used solely to ensure compatibility, deliver appropriate firmware packages, and assist with diagnostics. This device information is used to enable core functionality and is not used to track you across other applications or services.

4. Telemetry and Energy Data

A primary purpose of the Application is to display real-time and historical operational data from your solar charge controllers. Telemetry and energy data processed by the Application may include:

  • Battery voltage, charging current, and battery state of charge;
  • Solar power generation and photovoltaic input metrics;
  • Energy production and consumption statistics;
  • Device temperature readings;
  • Device operating status and system alerts;
  • Configuration settings and operating parameters;
  • Historical telemetry records for trend analysis.

This telemetry reflects the operation of your solar hardware and equipment. It is technical in nature and is used to provide monitoring, statistics, historical charts, and alerts within the Application. Where you enable cloud synchronization, this data may be transmitted to and stored on remote servers so that it can be accessed across your sessions and devices.

5. Bluetooth Permissions

The Application requests Bluetooth permissions in order to discover, connect to, configure, and provision nearby ESP32-based MPPT devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). On certain operating system versions, scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices may also require location permissions; where this is the case, the permission is requested solely to satisfy the operating system’s Bluetooth scanning requirements.

Bluetooth permission is used only for discovering and configuring nearby MPPT devices. We do not use Bluetooth or any associated location permission to determine, collect, store, or share your geographic location, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking purposes.

6. Network and MQTT Communication

The Application uses internet access to communicate with cloud services through the MQTT messaging protocol and related network connections. Internet access is used for the following purposes:

  • MQTT communication between your devices and cloud services;
  • Cloud synchronization of telemetry, statistics, and configuration data;
  • Delivering over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates to your devices;
  • Sending push notifications and system alerts.

Data transmitted over the network is sent using secure, industry-standard communication practices. Network communication is limited to the functionality described in this Privacy Policy and is not used to monitor your activity outside of the Application.

7. Notifications

The Application may send push notifications and alerts to keep you informed about the status of your solar system. These notifications may include system alerts, charging or battery warnings, device connectivity changes, firmware update availability, and other operationally relevant events.

To deliver push notifications, the Application may use a device-specific push token provided by your operating system’s notification service. You can control or disable notifications at any time through your device settings or within the Application, although disabling notifications may prevent you from receiving important alerts about your equipment.

8. Data Storage

Depending on how you use the Application, data may be stored in one or more of the following locations:

  • On your device: Configuration settings, cached telemetry, and recent historical data may be stored locally on your mobile device to enable offline access and faster performance.
  • On the device hardware: Certain configuration parameters are stored directly on your MPPT solar charge controller.
  • In the cloud: Where you enable cloud synchronization or create an account, telemetry, energy statistics, and configuration data may be stored on secure remote servers to support historical analysis and multi-session access.

We retain stored data only for as long as it is needed to provide the Application’s functionality, as further described in the Data Retention section below.

9. Data Security

We take reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the information processed by the Application against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Data is transmitted using industry-standard security practices, including encrypted communication channels for cloud and MQTT connections where supported.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to safeguard your account credentials and to keep both the Application and your device firmware up to date.

10. Third-Party Services

The Application may rely on certain third-party services to provide core functionality, such as cloud infrastructure providers, MQTT messaging brokers, and push notification delivery services. These providers process information only as necessary to perform their services and are expected to maintain appropriate safeguards for any data they handle.

We do not sell your information to advertisers, and we do not share your data with third parties for their independent advertising or marketing purposes.

11. User Rights

You have certain rights regarding the information processed by the Application, which may include the right to access, correct, or delete your data, and the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. In particular:

  • You may request access to the personal data associated with your account;
  • You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • You may request deletion of your account and associated device data;
  • You may disable permissions, such as Bluetooth or notifications, through your device settings.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details provided in the Contact Us section. We will respond to legitimate requests within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.

12. Data Retention

We retain information for only as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing monitoring functionality, maintaining historical telemetry and energy statistics, and complying with our legal obligations. Locally stored data remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the Application.

When you request deletion of your account and associated device data, we will delete or anonymize the relevant information from our active systems within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legitimate business or legal purposes.

13. Children’s Privacy

The Application is intended for use by adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take appropriate steps to remove such information and, where applicable, terminate any associated account.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the Application.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information. Your continued use of the Application after any changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
